Old Mill Toronto’s Tree of Warmth helps to support the women and children that seek shelter with Women’s Habitat. All of the Old Mill staff look forward to this time of year when we can help bring joy to families in need at Christmas.

A drop off station will be located in the lobby of the Old Mill Hotel for our generous neighbours that live in the area and want to join in our efforts to support the women and children at Women’s Habitat.

If you are interested in dropping off an unwrapped, non – cash donation you may consider the following options:

Cold Weather Items: During the chilly winter months Women’s Habitat welcomes; winter coats, mittens, hats and scarves, slippers, socks and pyjamas for women and children.

Gift Cards: Gift cards are provided to the women who arrive at the shelter with their children and little more than the clothes on their backs. They are used to purchase clothes, personal care products, and other necessities. Women moving out of the shelter also receive gift cards to help them purchase what’s needed to get started in their new homes. Gift cards are also provided to former shelter residents and outreach clients during the holiday season. Gift cards from grocery, housewares, drug stores and other major retailers are very useful.

TTC Tokens: Many of the women who use the shelter have many important appointments with doctors, lawyers, children’s teachers and other services. Being able to supply TTC tokens is a huge help.

Non-Perishable Food: Women’s Habitat is not a food bank; but whenever they can they provide women with food items to help them make it through the week. They always welcome donations of canned food such as tuna, beans, vegetables, peanut butter, and soup.

Toiletries: With 25 people in the shelter at all times, they go through a lot of toiletries, such as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and feminine hygiene products. Additionally, each time a new woman arrives at the shelter they provide her with a welcome package. Donations of unopened toiletries are always welcome.
