First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Juno-nominated trombonist WiLLIAM CARN has emerged as one of Canada’s leading contemporary jazz composers and performers. He has performed and recorded with leading jazz artists including Rob McConnell, Randy Brecker, David Binney, Kenny Wheeler, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Miguel Zenon, Joel Frahm, Barry Harris, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Mike Murley, and Hilario Duran.
Carn leads acclaimed groups the Carn Davidson NINE, Run Stop Run,and the William Carn Quintet. Run Stop Run released their debut self-titled CD in 2012. Produced by influential saxophonist David Binney, the recording is featured on Binney’s own Mythology Records. In 2014, the Carn Davidson Nine were nominated for a Juno Award as ‘Traditional Jazz Album of the Year’, as was the William Carn Quintet debut CD, Other Stories, in 2006.
He continues to enjoy a diverse freelance career in Toronto and is a regular member of the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival Orchestra. Studio and concert engagements have included performances with Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Feist, Luc Doucet, Emily Haynes, Matt Dusk, Jon Secada, Peabo Bryson, Sheena Easton, Christopher Cross, Dionne Taylor, Michael Kaeshammer, Jill Barber, Emile-Claire Barlow, Sophie Millman, Jeff Healy, and Colin James.He has been featured on over 200 commercial recordings as a performer, and is an instructor at both Humber College and the University of Toronto Jazz Studies programs.
This evening’s stellar WILLIAM CARN QUARTET features jazz masters WILLIAM CARN on trombone, MICHAEL DAVIDSON on vibes, DAN FORTIN on bass, and ERNESTO CERVINI (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
