First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Singer-songwriter WENDY LANDS has earned a reputation as a nuanced performer with a penchant for rich harmonies, sophisticated textures and killer musicianship. Her long and successful career has earned nominations for a Juno and two Radio Music Awards (Angels & Ordinary Men - EMI).
She was hand-selected to give voice to Wladyslaw Szpilman’s music on the companion CD to the Academy Award-winning film ‘The Pianist’ (Wendy Lands Sings The Music Of ‘The Pianist/- Universal Music Group), and vocalist/songwriter extraordinaire on her critically acclaimed 2011 release ‘Mumble’ (Fontana North).
Infused with pop, jazz and soul, Lands’ new collection of story-driven songs, ‘Altitude’, hit the #2 spot on the iTunes Jazz Album chart and is garnering heavy airplay on Jazz.FM91 and several shows on CBC Radio. Her skill and commitment as a performer, singer and songwriter cannot be ignored, and make her music and style the kind that defies convention, while birthing new fans with every note.
As a memorable treat for Home Smith Bar-goers this evening, Wendy Lands promises to perform excerpts from her latest show, “What the World Needs Now (a Musical Journey Through the ‘Mad Men’ era)”.
