Lenny Solomon Trio

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

LENNY SOLOMON‘s jazz violin virtuosity has been recognized throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.  Often called “Canada’s premier jazz violinist”, he has played a significant role in bringing what was considered mostly a classical instrument into new genres.

Solomon’s career has been evolving through the decades: in the seventies his cutting edge rock violin was featured in the Juno Award winning pop duo Myles and Lenny. In the eighties, he went back to a more traditional violin sound playing with the pop string quintet Quintessence. Also during this time he established himself as a popular and versatile studio musician playing on hundreds of recordings and soundtracks. In the nineties, he released two well-received jazz CDs, After You’ve Gone and The Gershwin Sessions and has been called “the heir apparent to Joe Venuti”.

He toured with the Lenny Solomon Trio and was a three-time winner of The Jazz Report‘s annual Violinist Of The Year Award.  Solomon is the Artistic Director as well as a performer in Bowfire, a company composed of virtuoso string players which debuted at Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany.  Bowfire is a one of a kind musical and theatrical experience which strings together one show-stopping hit after another in a fast paced theatrically staged production.  After 15 years as musical director of the Internationally acclaimed Bowfire show, Lenny Solomon is returning to his roots as a blues-based violinist.  His latest CD “The Blues Violin” has received rave reviews.

This evening’s all-star LENNY SOLOMON TRIO features jazz masters LENNY SOLOMON on violin, REG SCHWAGER on guitar, and SHELLY BERGER on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
