Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Honored as a “world class jazz singer” for her “spellbinding voice” and “boldly unique style” (All About Jazz), and “undoubtedly an artist of great merit, with a brilliant career in front of her” (Communicati Musicali), Canadian jazz vocalist, poet, and composer LARA SOLNICKI performs and records with many of Canada’s finest musicians, has #1 songs on Radio Canada, CBC Radio, and web radio charts, top 20 songs on international jazz web radio charts, and rave reviews from critics on four continents.
A classically trained singer with a four-octave range, Solnicki received a BA from The Glenn Gould School/Royal Conservatory of Music, and since 2010, she has been a jazz and creative music performer. She was one of three finalists in the Jazz Artist category in the Révélations Radio-Canada 2014 competition, and was the recipient of grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council. She has been featured in CD compilations produced by JAZZIZ Magazine (USA), and For Jazz Vocal Fans Only (Japan). She has released two internationally acclaimed CDs of her own: A Meadow in December (2010, Independent), and Whose Shadow? (Inner Circle Music) listed in January 2016 as one of the Best Vocal Jazz releases of 2015 (Jazz History Online, USA).
This evening’s singing star LARA SOLNICKI features jazz masters TED QUINLAN on guitar and ANDREW DOWNING on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
