Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall & Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
JULIE MICHELS’ “glorious holler” (Mark Miller, Globe and Mail) has been a unique and important feature on the Toronto Jazz scene for three decades. One-third of the smash hit “Broadsway” all-star revue ensemble (together with Heather Bambrick and Diane Leah), Julie is also a respected singular recording artist who has worked with bassist George Koller (Singing Naked, 1995, and Bass and Voice, 2011), guitarist Kevin Barrett (Live at Statlers, 2003, and She Sings, He Plays, 2010), Saxophonist/Flutist Don Braden (Come Together, 2012), as well as with the Choir of MCCToronto, under the direction of Diane Leah.
She has shared the stage with some of North America’s finest musicians, including Joe Sealy, Robbie Botos, Don Braden, Rob Piltch, Larnell Lewis, and Archie Alleyne. Her performances have delighted international audiences from the Glasgow Music Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Bridgeport Music Festival, to renowned jazz clubs like the Jazz Vortex (London), Café Gorilla (Paris), and the Jazz Café (Belgium).
This evening’s singing star JULIE MICHELS features KEVIN LaLIBERTE on guitar, RUSS BOSWELL on bass, and TIM SHIA on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
