First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Widely respected for his superior brush technique, stellar drummer DON VICKERY has been a vital part of the Toronto jazz scene since arriving in Toronto from Halifax in the late ‘50s. An honors graduate of the famed Oscar Peterson School of Music, he has worked with the world’s leading jazz artists, entertainers, and big bands in recordings, on radio and television shows, touring, and in live performance in hundreds of venues from clubs to concert halls for over five decades.
He is a founding member of the widely respected Canadian Jazz Quartet, played with Jim Galloway’s ‘Wee Big Band’ for more than 20 years, and was a member of Galloway’s ‘Echoes of Swing’ cruise band. As a dedicated jazz educator, he has been a member of the Percussion Faculty at Humber College for more than four decades.
Alone Together, the Don Vickery Trio’s critically acclaimed 2013 CD release (Cornerstone) was chosen one of JAZZ.FM91’s “Best of 2013” recordings.
This evening’s all-star DON VICKERY TRIO features jazz masters MARK EISENMAN on piano, NEIL SWAINSON on bass, and DON VICKERY (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
