Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall & Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Versatile, refined, and skilled singer-songwriter DANA LaCROIX has attracted such admirers as Canadian legend Gordon Lightfoot, the late Denny Doherty of The Mamas and the Papas, and journalists and radio DJs in the United States, Canada, and abroad.
While folk music resides at the heart of her work, LaCroix draws from a deeper well that’s also filled with country, blues, and pop music. Her emotive vocalizing, heartfelt, sophisticated songcraft, and superb musicianship are the mark of an artist who knows instinctively how to find her way deep inside a lyric and take the audience in there with her.
Three-time National Jazz Awards’ ‘Pianist of the Year’ DAVID RESTIVO and LaCroix met in college and recently reconnected, forging a musical partnership that has taken them from Canada to the U.S. and Scandinavia. Restivo is one of Canada’s most respected and influential jazz artists, well-known for his work with Rob McConnell’s Boss Brass and Tentet, the Mike Murley Quintet, and songwriter Marc Jordan. He has also performed with David Clayton-Thomas, and jazz greats Jon Hendricks, Kenny Wheeler, and Mel Tormé. He was voted Toronto’s Best Keyboardist in NOW Magazine’s “Best of T.O.” readers’ poll in 1998, and received a Juno Award as a member of The Rob McConnell Tentet (2001, Justin Time).
David Restivo’s deep jazz roots combined with the lyrical power of Dana LaCroix’s blues-influenced folk music make this an evening not to be missed.
