First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
“Brian Blain’s Blues Campfire” has long been a popular attraction in Toronto with residencies at leading venues and on the road at festivals and events. Now as a monthly feature of the Home Smith Bar’s “Year ‘Round Jazz Festival”, accomplished guitarist and entertaining vocal favorite BRIAN BLAIN continues the Blues Campfire tradition, bringing together four and more leading lights of the local blues scene on the “Second Saturday” of every month with occasional visits from international touring artists who are passing through town. The ”cream of the crop” gather around Brian’s “campfire” to jam and swap songs in a (mostly) acoustic, intimate setting.
Tonight, BRIAN BLAIN‘s “Remembrance Day” Campfire Jam will feature two blues legends and a new arrival on the local blues scene. Bassist/producer ALEC FRASER has recorded and backed up some of the blues world’s finest including Snooky Pryor, Pinetop Perkins, Billyboy Arnold, Sam Myers and worked for years with Jeff Healey, who called him his “big brother.” CHRIS WHITELEY is the patriarch of Toronto’s “royal family” of the Blues having learned the blues from none other than Lonnie Johnson and having played with a who’s who of blues stars, most recently with his wife Diana Braithwaite (who may just sit in for a couple of tunes). JENIE THAI has been making a big buzz since arriving in Toronto after making a name for herself out west. She combines her love of the traditional piano blues, sixties r&b, and great American songwriters to produce a unique charm as a roots and blues musician on the national and international scene.
