Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall & Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tenorman BOB BROUGH is ‘The Senator’ in Globe & Mail jazz critic Mark Miller’s book ‘Boogie, Pete, and The Senator’, published in the late ‘80s. He has appeared with a long list of prominent rock, jazz, and classical artists throughout an illustrious career that spans nearly four decades, and recorded as a sideman on innumerable recordings including two Juno-nominated CDs with ‘Time Warp’.
More recently, he was a featured solo and ensemble performer on Richard Underhill’s Juno Award-winning ‘Tales From the Blue Lounge’. He has produced and/or released three of his own CDs over the past decade (including ‘Like a Spring Day’ featuring vocalist Carol McCartney in 2005) featuring many of his own compositions, all of them quickly climbing to top positions on international Canadian University jazz charts.
In 2003, Brough opened for The Herbie Hancock All-Stars to kick off the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. He is an integral member of several Toronto bands including The Jive Bombers, the Peter Hill Quintet, the George Koller Quartet, and the Greg Pilo Quartet.
This evening’s all-star BOB BROUGH TRIO features jazz masters BOB BROUGH on saxophone, ADREAN FARRUGIA on piano, and ARTIE ROTH on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
