First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
AMY MCCONNELL has been performing from the age of nine months when she appeared in her first television commercial. Amy continued her childhood career as one of the principals on the TfO TV series “Téléfrançais” and also performed in various professional musical theatrical productions.
She went on to win a scholarship to study musical theatre performance at the American Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts in Manhattan. Studying acting made Amy feel that what she really wanted to do was direct. McConnell returned to Toronto to study film at Ryerson Polytechnic University and has since become an award winning-film and commercial director, splitting her time between her film production and music careers.
Despite her anglophone name, Amy comes from a francophone background, is fluently bilingual, and frequently performs in French. Known for her beautiful voice, impeccable intonation and emotional approach, her unique style encompasses jazz, pop and musical theatre. “Accomplice” is her second album with William Sperandei. Their first album, “Stealing Genius,” was nominated for a JUNO for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2014.
This evening’s singing star AMY McCONNELL features jazz masters MARK KIESWETTER on piano and ROSS MacINTYRE on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
