Tonight, veteran jazz vocalist YVETTE TOLLAR revisits the Home Smith Bar to perform music from her Juno-nominated CD, Ima, along with originals and fresh selections from her upcoming album of Joni Mitchell-penned tunes.
A beloved staple on Toronto’s jazz scene for more than two decades, Tollar has performed across Canada, Europe, the U.S., and South America. She is a featured vocalist on many CDs including those released by celebrated artists Elizabeth Shepherd, Michael Occhipinti’s Shine On project, Kevin Breit, John MacMurchy, Marito Marquez, Dominic Mancuso, Rinsethealgorithm, and The Toronto Tabla Ensemble. Tollar has shared stages with jazz masters including Sheila Jordan, Kenny Werner, and Don Thompson. A versatile vocalist, she is both a “singer’s singer” and a favourite of musicians.
Her reverent delivery of lyrics coupled with her rich, soulful musical choices take audiences on an intimate, mature voyage. Her delivery of lyrics is mature and her technique flawless. She describes music as her connection to the source and this reverence shines through in her sincere and unaffected performances. She has sung in at least nine different languages and more than a dozen genres including Traditional and Modern Jazz, R&B, Classical, and Klezmer music. Ima and Cactus Flowers are her two Modern Jazz offerings.
This evening’s singing star YVETTE TOLLAR features jazz luminaries ADREAN FARRUGIA on piano and MIKE DOWNES on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
