Stellar Canadian bassist PAUL NOVOTNY is a Juno-nominated artist who has produced Juno Award-winning music including Joe Sealy’s Africville Suite on Triplet Records, and performed with stalwart jazz musicians Brian Browne, Joe Sealy, Hagood Hardy, Peter Appleyard, Lynne Arrialle, Junior Mance, John Campbell, Moncef Genoud, Richard Wyands, Don Friedman, Geoff Keezer, Ray Downes, Jo-Anne Brakeen, Don Thompson, Kenny Wheeler, and Cedar Walton. He has composed music for advertising, film and TV — CBC The National, The Hour and Newsworld’s News Now.
Novotny played on the platinum-selling video game soundtrack Cuphead and has accompanied singers Susannah McCorkle, Carol Welsman, Jackie Richardson, Alana Bridgwater, Barbra Lica, Holly Cole, Molly Johnson, Micah Barnes, and David Clayton-Thomas. In 2015 he released (in stereo and surround sound) his duo recording Look Ahead with pianist Robi Botos. He is a Spotify and Apple Music artist, and as such has presented performances with Robi, Jackie Richardson, Alana Bridgwater and Alison Young at concert venues The Algonquin Theatre, Fieldcote Music Festival, The Elora Festival, The Lieth Summer Festival, Gallery 345, Showplace, and The Lakefield Jazz and Arts Festival. He has an MA in music composition and as a Ph.D student, he is a published author.
