Guitarist JESSE BARKSDALE has been a fixture of the Toronto Jazz Scene for more than a dozen years. He has performed live and/or on recordings with Jeff Healey, and more recently Ross Wooldridge, Don Thompson, Bernie Senensky, and Brandi Disterheft. His style is an understated, bluesy, and swinging approach to the Classic American Songbook, in the tradition of the great swing and bebop stylists. He has performed at jazz festivals across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and France including Festival Django Reinhardt Samois sur Seine.

While still in his teens, Toronto-born Barksdale moved to New York City where he performed at Windows on the World on the 107th floor of the former World Trade Center, the Spy Bar in SoHo,and Lansky’s Lounge in the East Village. Returning to his native Toronto in the late ’90s, he began working with Canadian music legend Jeff Healey. In a June 2002 interview with ‘Vintage Guitar’ Magazine Healey said,”I have a full-time guitar player named Jesse Barksdale, who, in my opinion, is the finest jazz guitar player, all-around, in this country.”

This evening’s stellar JESSE BARKSDALE TRIO features jazz masters JOHN MEYER on bass and MORGAN CHILDS on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
