Jazz pianist and composer CHRISTOPHER SIMMONS has an expressive musical palette that is remarkable in that it ranges from peaceful and sublime to harmonically complex and powerful. As a sideman, his work has spanned several genres and over four decades in Canada and New York City. As a leader, he has released seven albums of original compositions and standards. He has performed and recorded with some of the most prominent jazz artists of our time.
Simmons began playing drums at the age of 11 and by the age of 14 he was already playing professionally. Influenced by his father, a jazz pianist, Christopher focused his attention on piano and composition while attending Mohawk College and while studying in New York City on grants from the Canada Council for the Arts. His latest album is Know The Now and is available on iTunes and CD Baby.
Tonight’s performance of the all-star CHRISTOPHER SIMMONS TRIO also features bassist ARTIE ROTH and drummer KEVIN DEMPSEY, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal intimacy of the Home Smith Bar.
