CAROL McCARTNEY‘s impeccable vocals and finely-tuned musicianship have made her a favorite among musicians and audiences alike. She continues her evolution in jazz after being honoured by the city of Toronto with a street named after her, “McCartney Street”, in the Weston area where she grew up.
She has sung with many of North America’s premiere orchestras from Toronto to California, from Vancouver to Florida, and countless stops in between. She has been the featured jazz vocalist with the Toronto, Vancouver, Kingston, Detroit, Omaha, New Mexico, Nashville, Sarasota Symphonies and many more.
McCartney is the recipient of a Marty Award from the Mississauga Arts Council and has two critically acclaimed solo recordings – “A Night in Tunisia” and “Be Cool”. All About Jazz wrote, “Toronto native Carol McCartney records another impressive vocal statement on the breezy “Be Cool” cementing her reputation as one of Canada’s finest jazz vocalists.”
Murray Charters of the Brantford Expositor wrote, “Now here is a voice for the future of jazz. By turns silky and smooth, warm and enveloping, and still soaring across a huge range of notes and expression, McCartney has it all. Her voice can be clear and limpid when needed, then cloudy and troubled, always deeply expressive of the song at hand.”
This evening’s singing star CAROL McCARTNEY features BRIAN DICKINSON on piano, REG SCHWAGER on guitar, and KIERAN OVERS on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
