Juno Award-winning bandleader and instrumentalist BOB DeANGELIS is widely regarded as “Canada’s Own ‘King of Swing’”, and long considered to be one of this country’s most popular bandleaders. He is a multiple award-winning instrumentalist, including two JUNO Awards and was awarded the title of “Jazz Clarinetist of the Year” from the Canadian National Jazz Awards. Internationally recognized for his woodwind playing prowess, his diverse performing career includes appearances at international jazz festivals from Toronto to Montreux.
He has performed as a guest artist with symphony orchestras across North America, and entertained for heads of state and royalty. He was the featured soloist in the hit musical ‘Fosse’ where he recreated Benny Goodman’s legendary performance of ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ at Carnegie Hall, and in 2008, DeAngelis’s own 50-piece Champagne Symphony staged a triumphant Carnegie Hall concert in New York when they performed in 70th anniversary celebration of Goodman’s groundbreaking 1938 concert there.
This evening’s performance of BOB DeANGELIS & FRIENDS marks the continuation of another “Third Thursdays” residency at the Home Smith Bar showcasing some of the swing scene’s most talented players. Tonight’s featured guest is trombone master PHIL GRAY, with leader BOB DeANGELIS on clarinet and saxophone, BILL BRIDGES on guitar, and bassist RON JOHNSTON.
