First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Award-winning pianist ADREAN FARRUGIA, regarded as one of Canada’s most distinctive voices on the piano, has performed with leading jazz names in every major city in North America, France, Switzerland, Poland, and Japan. As a leader Farrugia has released three albums (his second album ‘Ricochet’ was nominated for a 2011 Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz recording), and as a composer, he has penned more than 30 works to date.

Since the late 1990s, Farrugia has been in high demand as both a performer and educator, performing and/or recording with some of jazz’s greatest and most diverse artists including: Larry Carlton, Ernie Watts, Curtis Fuller, Tom Scott, Bob Brookmeyer, Jane Bunnett, Randy Brecker, Eric Alexander, Jane Bunnett, Ron Blake, Joel Frahm, Cyrille Aimee, Matt Penman, Brad Goode, Kenny Wheeler, Molly Johnson, Darcy James Argue, Don Thompson, Lorne Lofsky, Kevin Turcotte, and Pat LaBarbera.

As a leader, Adrean Farrugia has released three albums including ‘Ricochet’ which was nominated for a 2011 Juno Award. As a composer, he has penned more than 30 works to date. He is currently pianist for such diverse projects as the Matt Dusk Band, the Brad Goode Quintet, Ernesto Cervini’s ‘Turboprop’, the Johnny Griffith Quintet, Kiki Misumi, Tim Shia’s ‘The Worst Pop Band Ever’, the Bob Brough Quartet, John Cheesman Orchestra, Luke Maxim, Eleanor McCain, and the Darcy Hepner Big Band. He also works regularly with his wife, vocalist Sophia Perlman.
He is currently on the faculty of Mohawk College, and has also served on the faculties of York University and Humber College. He has done workshops/clinics at the University of Colorado, University of Toronto, The University of Western Ontario, The Banff Centre for the Arts, the Sydney and Brisbane Conservatories, and in Warsaw Poland as part of the Polish Jazz Society’s 35th annual Summer Jazz Workshop. He is a contributing writer to piano guru Larry Fine’s publication “The Piano Book”, the world’s foremost publication on all things piano.

This evening’s all-star ADREAN FARRUGIA TRIO features jazz masters ADREAN FARRUGIA on piano, ROSS MacINTYRE on bass, and BEN RILEY (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
