First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

… international jazz vocal favorite critically praised for her ‘fusion of styles and an open door invitation to transcend expectations’; “Little Hearts” CD (2010) cited among the Top Ten iTunes Jazz Albums; “Words We Both Could Say” CD (2008) still ranking high on international radio charts; and her most recent acclaimed achievement “Butcher Sings Baker” featuring Shannon singing songs from the Chet Baker songbook; featured vocalist performing Oscar Peterson’s “Hymn to Freedom” to commemorate Dr. Peterson’s induction into Mississauga’s ‘Legends Row’ ……

Jazz vocalist SHANNON BUTCHER connects with her audiences not just with her outstanding voice, but also with her self-composed songs and re-imagined jazz arrangements of contemporary pop hits. After graduating from the University of Toronto, she became one-third of the vocal trio Swing Rosie, who garnered acclaim for their tight harmonies and high-energy performances, and has since established herself as a successful solo artist in the Canadian jazz community.

Butcher has released three albums, has performed at numerous festivals including the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Burlington Sound of Music Festival, Orillia Jazz and Blues Festival, and has headlined theatre concerts and club dates throughout Canada. She has been the head of the Vocal Faculty at National Music Camp since 2008.

This evening’s singing star SHANNON BUTCHER features jazz masters ATTILA FIAS on piano, and ROSS MacINTYRE (bass), entertaining in the up-close-and personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
