Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Virtuosic jazz trumpet player, bandleader, and master of the complex Electronic Valve Instrument (EVI), BRUCE CASSIDY is also a skilled arranger and composer, who spent more than two decades living in South Africa where he became a vital part of the cultural scene. He has appeared in concert with genre-spanning giants of the music industry including Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Dionne Warwick, Anne Murray, Marvin Gaye, Chucho Valdez, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
He was a long-time member of the famed “Blood, Sweat, and Tears” fusion band, and toured extensively with “Lighthouse” as well as Doug Riley’s renowned “Dr. Music”. He played on the first seven albums released by “The Boss Brass”, was Musical Director for Hall of Fame singer/songwriter David Clayton-Thomas for several years, and continues to lead “Bruce Cassidy’s Hotfoot Orchestra”, One World Trio (a world music project), and the “Mbaqanga” Quartet featuring South African Township music.
