Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Home Smith Bar is a showcase for some of the most important instrumentalists and outstanding singers on today’s jazz scene performing in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight we feature internationally-honored piano icon ROBI BOTOS, regarded as one of Canada’s most important musicians. A prodigy of Oscar Peterson, Botos has gathered accolades and awards all over the world. He was a recent TD Grand Jazz Award recipient and headlined at two festivals in Mexico in the Fall of 2012. He performed with the great Branford Marsalis at the Brampton Jazz Festival, a collaboration that led to a later Toronto tour de force featuring Branford and his original quartet members (drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts and bassist Robert Hurst) in a memorable Koerner Hall concert performance. Raised in a musical Roma family in Hungary, Botos left his country in 1998 to pursue a career in music in Canada. This evening’s exciting Robi Botos Trio also features Robi’s talented brother, bassist LOUIS BOTOS, Jr., and their father, LOUIS BOTOS, Sr. on drums, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
