First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Toronto pianist RICHARD WHITEMAN sounds like no-one but himself! He is a distinctive artist whose fluent and personal style encompasses the history of jazz from the stride masters of the twenties, through Bud Powell and Bill Evans, to modern giants like Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock. As a leader, he has released eight CDs and received raves from as far away as Japan where his Grooveyard disc was rated one of the Top 500 Jazz Piano Trio records of all time.
In addition to his busy schedule of club, corporate, and touring engagements, Whiteman is also an educator, teaching jazz piano and leading ensembles at York University in Toronto. He performs frequently with The Hogtown Syncopaters, The Orange Devils, and The Cookers Quintet.
