Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Pianist RICHARD WHITEMAN has been delighting Toronto audiences for nearly thirty years with his swinging piano renditions and encyclopedic knowledge of jazz. His style embraces everything from the stride masters of the twenties to the masters of contemporary jazz like Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock,and Brad Mehldau. He has performed at major venues across Canada for three decades, and toured internationally in Brazil, Egypt, and the U.S.A.
He has worked with many of Canada’s finest performers including Ed Bickert, Ranee Lee, and Reg Schwager and international artists Nick Brignola, Ken Peplowski, and Dewey Redman. He has recorded eight CDs as a leader with his ‘Grooveyard’ recording ranked as one of the Top 500 Jazz Piano recordings of all time. “On Course”, his most recent CD, features Richard’s bass playing in support of pianist Amanda Tosoff, guitarist Reg Schwager, and drummer Morgan Childs.
This evening’s all-star RICHARD WHITEMAN TRIO features jazz masters RICHARD WHITEMAN (piano), KURT NIELSEN on bass, and MORGAN CHILDS on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
