Mike Murley Trio

Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the Summer, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

2013 Juno Award-Winning Saxophone Icon (“Test of Time”, Cornerstone Records) MIKE MURLEY is leader and/or a featured performer on 11 Juno- winning albums and more than 20 Juno nominations. An engaging, lyrical saxophonist, he is respected as one of Canada’s finest jazz talents and one of the most versatile players on the scene today, remaining at the forefront of the Canadian music scene for more than two decades.  He was named ‘Saxophonist of the Year’ eight times at the Jazz Report/National Jazz Awards. He is a founding member of the famed ‘Rob McConnell Tentet’, also well-known for his work with the multi-Juno Award-winning electric jazz group Metalwood.

Since moving to Toronto from his native Nova Scotia in 1981, Murley has enjoyed a career that has spanned a wide stylistic spectrum.   Recordings with veteran Canadian artists including Ed Bickert, Guido Basso, and the late Rob McConnell showcase the saxophonist’s talents in the mainstream standard repertoire.  On the more contemporary side, he has collaborated frequently with the younger generation of improviser/composers including pianist David Braid and guitarist David Occhipinti.

This evening’s all-star MIKE MURLEY TRIO features jazz masters MIKE MURLEY  on saxophone, REG SCHWAGER on guitar, and STEVE WALLACE on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
