Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Home Smith Bar is a showcase for some of the most important instrumentalists and outstanding singers on today’s jazz scene performing in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight, we proudly feature just-announced 2014 Juno Award Winner MIKE DOWNES, bass preeminence whose extensive discography exemplifies his imposing talents as a bassist, composer, and arranger. Ripple Effect, which won in the Traditional Jazz Album Category, is his fifth recording as leader (following Forces, Then, The Winds of Change, and In The Current). He also played integral roles in the release of several other acclaimed recordings including Molly Johnson’s 2009 Juno Award-winning Lucky, and Juno nominations Lorne Lofsky’s Bill Please, Ranee Lee’s Dark Divas and Maple Groove, Shirantha Beddage’s Identity, and Molly Johnson’s Another Day and Messin’ Around. This evening’s illustrious Trio also stars brilliant pianist ROBI BOTOS and famed saxophonist KELLY JEFFERSON, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
