Mike Cado Trio

Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the Summer, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Guitar master MIKE CADÓ received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Education at York University and completed his Masters Degree in Jazz Composition under the supervision of Professor David Mott.  He leads the MC & Company musical ensemble and recently produced a recording with jazz vocalist Sherie Marshall (The Sweetest Sounds) featuring Pat Collins, Guido Basso, and other jazz notables.

The Mike Cadó Tentet features a collection of Toronto’s finest musicians who perform the music of Phil Nimmons, as well as compositions by various group members.  The ensemble’s critically acclaimed debut recording, Nimmons ‘n’ Nine…Now, was released in 2008.

He has performed with jazz luminaries including Don Thompson, Chase Sanborn, Perry White, Terry Promane, Barry Romberg, and Richard Whiteman.  He has been a guest clinician for high schools across Toronto and has adjudicated groups and soloists for various music academies including Cosmo Music, Arcadia Music, and the York University Jazz Festival since 2010.   He is currently pursuing his PhD in Ethnomusicology and is a faculty member at York University where he  directs the York University Jazz Orchestra and “Soul Collective,” a 15-piece soul and R&B ensemble.

This evening’s all-star MIKE CADÓ TRIO features jazz masters MIKE CADÓ on guitar, PATRICIA WHEELER on saxophone, and bassist RUSS BOSWELL, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
