Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved lounges.
MAUREEN KENNEDY has cultivated an extensive repertoire of memorable standards and rediscovered gems that complement her very personal sound. Through the years she has performed at leading venues and arts events in and around the city of Toronto with many of Canada’s accomplished jazz players, and recently, she sang at the renowned Cory Weeds Cellar Jazz Club in Vancouver.
Her debut recording This Is Always features a selection of classic standards including rarely recorded compositions by Billy Strayhorn, Jimmy Van Heusen, Johnny Burke, and Alec Wilder. Ted Ono, the producer of Out of the Shadows, her sophomore CD release says, “She sings with understatement while still retaining her jazz identity…what she and her accomplished accompanists successfully achieve here is the art of good mainstream jazz, the kind listeners find both comforting and enticing.”
Canadian radio and television personality Ralph Benmergui described her as “…ethereal, soulful, (with) a singular voice that is immediate in its impact and timeless in its breadth…”
This evening’s singing star MAUREEN KENNEDY features jazz masters BERNIE SENENSKY on piano and STEVE WALLACE on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
