Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Dubbed “la crema de la crema of Cuban-Toronto musicians” (The Wholenote Magazine) the LUIS MARIO OCHOA Quartet is an exciting and eclectic Latin ensemble with a jazzy touch.   Born In Havana, Cuba, fiery guitarist and spellbinding singer Luis Mario is currently based in both Toronto & Miami, Florida.

He deftly leads his group in performances renowned for virtuosity and incredible musicianship. The acoustic ensemble features music and rhythms that include classics from the Latin American Song book, as well as original compositions by the charismatic Ochoa, in a fresh performance approach that is sizzling with “fire, finesse and authenticity” (JazzTimes.com)

The band has been featured at all the major Canadian jazz festivals including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Halifax, and St. John’s. International audiences have experienced Ochoa’s brilliance at the Barbados Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, in New York as special guest of the great Paquito D’ Rivera, and guesting with the Miami Chamber Orchestra.

To date, he has recorded four critically-acclaimed CDs, all of which have reached top 10 stature in the USA and on Canadian jazz/world charts.

This evening’s singing/guitar star LUIS MARIO OCHOA features jazz masters HILARIO DURAN on piano, LOUIS SIMAO on bass, and percussionist LUIS ORBEGOSO, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
