Gord Sheard “Sinal Aberto’ Quartet

First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Piano powerhouse GORD SHEARD is a multi-faceted musician, bandleader, composer, and producer. He is a respected Humber College department head whose PhD in Ethnomusicology reflects a lifelong devotion to the vibrant Brazilian culture and deep love of the music emanating from its core.

For several years he toured extensively with flugelhorn great Chuck Mangione in North America, South America, and the Caribbean, and was a long-time member of Manteca and The Montuno Police.  He has performed live with jazz luminaries Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Steve Gadd, Dave Garibaldi, Slim Gaillard, Steve Ferrone, Lew Soloff, and Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson.

His compositions can be heard on five CDs under his own name including All Saints’ Bay (2013) and Crucible (2006), as well as recordings by John MacLeod, Phil Dwyer, Samba Squad, Colleen Allen, Autorickshaw, The Montuno Police, and Manteca.

This evening’s all-star ‘SINAL ABERTO’ Quartet features jazz masters GORD SHEARD (piano), LUANDA JONES (vocals), GEORGE KOLLER (bass), and MARK KELSO (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
