Every Friday and Saturday throughout the sizzling summer, the coolest place to be is the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto where some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene entertain in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight, we feature stellar saxophonist FRED DULIGAL, a mainstay of the Toronto jazz and big band scenes for several decades. He was a member of Guido Basso’s Big Band for 11 years, and has played with The Spitfire Band since 1985. Early in his career, he led his own group at The Cellar in Toronto. As a tenor saxophonist, he’s been an important player at innumerable jazz festivals all over the world. He was a frequently featured player with Jim Galloway’s ‘Toronto Alive!’ Band which broadcast live on radio throughout the ‘80s, a long engagement that saw him working with a lengthy list of jazz legends including Sweets Edison and Zoot Sims. He continues to be central to the city’s music scene performing with big bands and as leader of smaller jazz groups. This evening’s all-star Trio also features guitar great LORNE LOFSKY and iconic bassist NEIL SWAINSON, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
