Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved lounges.
With the 2014 release of her third CD, Like a Circle in a Spiral, FERN LINDZON has continued to put her own, unique spin on contemporary jazz. She describes the recording as the culmination to date of a fascinating musical journey that began when she took classical voice and piano lessons as a child and continued through a degree in music history at the University of Toronto, studies with Frank Falco and Don Thompson and on, as a performer, into jazz and world music.
The multi-faceted pianist/vocalist/composer was a 2012 JUNO Award Nominee (“Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”) for her second CD (Two Kites). Lindzon possesses a technique WholeNote Magazine called ‘breathtakingly beautiful’, jazz critic Mark Miller wrote ‘is secure in her sense of herself, her art, and her craft’, and New Canadian Music described as “one of the most adventurous and accomplished vocalists, pianists, and songwriters on the T.O. jazz scene”.
This evening’s all-star FERN LINDZON TRIO features jazz masters FERN LINDZON (vocals, piano), GEORGE KOLLER on bass, and NICK FRASER on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
