Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the Summer, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Guitarist/composer DAVID OCCHIPINTI is a multiple JUNO Award nominee, including those for his Forty Revolutions and Duologue, the first of two double CDs with saxophonist Mike Murley. Bristles (2014), a collaboration with bassist Andrew Downing and trumpeter Jim Lewis, was also nominated for a JUNO, and awarded four stars in Downbeat Magazine.
During the 1990s, he studied in New York with legendary jazz guitarist and composer Jim Hall, and has performed all over Canada, the U.S.A., Europe, Japan, and Italy, where he lived for almost three years. Occhipinti has released five CDs as a leader all featuring his unique voice as both a composer and a guitarist. On his most recent CD release, Camera, he combines elements of contemporary chamber music with improvisation, featuring his own compositions and acclaimed guitar skills.
This evening’s all-star DAVID OCCHIPINTI TRIO features jazz masters DAVID OCCHIPINTI on guitar, ANDREW DOWNING on bass, and TERRY CLARKE on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
