Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Home Smith Bar is a showcase for some of the most important instrumentalists and outstanding singers on today’s jazz scene performing in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight we feature 2014 JUNO Award-winning trumpeter, composer, and ‘cultural inventor’, DAVID BUCHBINDER. He has been involved in World Music and Jazz since 1987 and has earned a reputation as one of its compositional and instrumental leading lights, through The Flying Bulgars, his eponymous Jazz Ensemble and, most recently, his Odessa/Havana Project. He has received two JUNO and one Canadian Folk Music Award as well as six JUNO, two National Jazz Award and two CFMA nominations. He was the creator and first artistic director of the world-renowned Ashkenaz Festival. He is also the creator/producer of multidisciplinary performances Shurum Burum Jazz Circus, The Jerusalem Salon, Tumbling Into Light, and Andalusia to Toronto, which was commissioned by Koerner Hall to open its 2011/12 season. This evening’s stellar David Bookbinder Trio also features HILARIO DURAN on piano and JON MAHARAJ on bass, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
