Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved-lounges.
Outstanding saxophone and flute talent DAVID CALDWELL‘s luminous career is highlighted by years as a featured soloist with the Phil Nimmons Orchestra, Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass, The Spitfire Band, and Jim Galloway’s Wee Big Band. Born in Halifax, he studied at Berklee in Boston before relocating to Montreal where he worked as a soloist in the esteemed Vic Vogel and Denny Vaughan Orchestras.
Moving to Toronto in 1972, he performed in two TV specials starring the great Oscar Peterson, and recorded with Peterson on occasion. He traveled as a member of Canadian icon Anne Murray’s band throughout the height of her commercial success, appearing at Radio City Music Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the London Palladium, on “The Tonight Show”, and at major venues in Australia and New Zealand. For 15 years he occupied the first woodwind chair at Toronto’s prestigious O’Keefe Centre.
This evening’s all-star DAVE CALDWELL QUARTET features jazz masters DAVE CALDWELL (saxophones, flute), MIKE ALLEN on guitar, PAT COLLINS on bass, and DON VICKERY on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
