Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Home Smith Bar is a showcase for some of the most important instrumentalists and outstanding singers on today’s jazz scene performing in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight, we feature the lush saxophone sounds of CHRIS GALE, who, since taking up residence in Toronto in 1994, has performed, recorded, and toured with Blue Rodeo, Ron Sexsmith, Colin James, Michael Kaeshammer, Brandi Disterheft, and Richard Underhill; appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival; performed with Randy Brecker, Garth Hudson, and Oliver Jones; and released his own CD (Strays Stays – GD Productions) to critical acclaim and global airplay. (“There’s a stylish Ellington sound stirring here,” wrote Toronto Star jazz critic Geoff Chapman.) This evening’s stellar Quartet also showcases award-winning pianist AMANDA TOSOFF and in-demand bassist JON MAHARAJ, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
