Chris Gale Quartet

Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the Summer, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

CHRIS GALE is a nationally-recognized saxophonist, composer, producer, and educator whose driving style and rich tone can be heard on more than 150 recordings.  He has performed around the globe in theatres, clubs and at festivals, impressing crowds with his lyrical sensibility and soulful approach.  Of his own 2001 debut recording “Strays Stays”, Toronto Star jazz critic Geoff Chapman wrote “There’s a stylish Ellington ensemble sound stirring here…beautifully done with lush tenor work…”

Since moving to Toronto from Hamilton, Ontario in 1994, he has emerged as a versatile and in demand musician working with some of Canada’s finest recording artists. He has appeared at the Canadian Consulate in Paris, Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, and the Banff International Jazz Workshop. He has performed and recorded with Blue Rodeo, Ron Sexsmith, Colin James, Michael Kaeshammer, Brandi Disterheft, Jarvis Church, Jeff Healey, The Powder Blues Band, and Richard Underhill, and performed with Randy Brecker, Garth Hudson, John Abercrombie, Dave Douglas, and Oliver Jones.

Chris Gale continues to perform with several Toronto-based bands including The Worst Pop Band Ever, the Brandi Disterheft Quartet (The Mongolian Warlords), the Peter Hill Band, Laura Hubert, and Tyler Yarema.

This evening’s all-star CHRIS GALE QUARTET features jazz masters CHRIS GALE on saxophone, MATT NEWTON on piano, ALEX COLEMAN on bass, and drummer NORBERT BOTOS, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
