Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
BRIGHAM PHILLIPS, internationally esteemed leader of the star-studded Brigham Phillips Big Band, has been on the Toronto music scene for 30 years as a player (piano and trumpet), bandleader, teacher, producer, composer, and arranger, performing jazz, pop, Dixieland, theatre, and orchestral music. His CD “And It Really Was” featuring Canadian jazz greats Guido Basso and Mike Murley was nominated for a Juno in 2002 and won Phillips the National Jazz Award for Producer of the Year.
In the summer of 2008, Phillips went to Moscow twice to record the Moscow Festival Orchestra performing his arrangements of Celtic classics and songs from the American Songbook. He was musical director for renowned tenor John McDermott for 15 years and is currently the musical director for Hall of Fame vocal legend David Clayton-Thomas (of Blood, Sweat and Tears fame). For much of 2013-15, Brigham Phillips toured with The (Canadian) Tenors playing keyboards, accordion, and trumpet as well as performing with The Official Blues Brothers Revue and serving as musical director with Drayton Entertainment.
This evening’s all-star BRIGHAM PHILLIPS TRIO features jazz masters BRIGHAM PHILLIPS on piano, NATHAN HILTZ on guitar, and JON MAHARAJ on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
