First Tuesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important entertainers on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Tonight, we feature the brilliant piano artistry of BRIAN DICKINSON, recipient of two Juno Awards, a Jazz Report Award, the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s coveted ‘Prix de Jazz’, and a mainstay on the Toronto jazz scene for over thirty years. He has toured North America, Europe, and Asia extensively working with the world’s jazz greats, while consistently maintaining an active performing career here at home, and serving as head of the Jazz Piano Department at Humber College.
As a leader, Dickinson has released seven recordings including the Juno Award-winning ‘In Transition’; ‘The Glenn Gould Sessions’ in a duo setting with Lee Konitz; ‘Other Places’ featuring saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi; and ‘Around the Bend’ in collaboration with guitarist Ted Quinlan. As well as leading his own trio, quartet, quintet, and (most recently) big band projects, he can be heard in bands led by Pat LaBarbera and Kirk MacDonald. He has also worked and recorded with Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, and many other jazz greats.
This evening’s all-star BRIAN DICKINSON TRIO features jazz masters BRIAN DICKINSON (piano), JIM VIVIAN (bass), and ETHAN ARDELLI (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
