Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved lounges.
Tonight we feature perennial vocal favorite BONNIE BRETT, a powerful and swinging interpreter of the American Songbook who has headlined at concerts, leading club venues, and important jazz festivals across Canada throughout an enduring career spanning three successful decades.
Recently returning to the Toronto scene after a yearlong teaching engagement at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Brett currently teaches at both the University of Waterloo and Toronto’s York University where she is also a PhD candidate researching Ella Fitzgerald’s early scat solos. Her critically-acclaimed discography comprises several recordings including CBC Radio’s Jazz Beat, Live At The Montreal Bistro, and The Elvis Costello Songbook.
This evening’s singing star BONNIE BRETT features jazz masters DAVID BRAID (piano) and STEVE WALLACE (bass) entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
