Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Fall and Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved lounges.
Jazz bassist ARTIE ROTH has been active as a composer, bandleader, performer and educator in the national and international jazz communities, since graduating from York University in 1992 with the Oscar Peterson Scholarship. Following two Canada Council sponsored study tenures in New York City (1993 and 1997), he returned to Toronto to establish himself as a full-time composer/performer. As a leader, he has released “Parallels” (2005), “Currently Experiencing” (2013), and “Discern” (2015).
Roth is also a member of, and contributing composer for the Rich Underhill Group, the Bob Brough Quartet, Kollage, and The Jazz Collective. He has recorded as a side person on more than 50 recordings including Juno Award-winning Rich Underhill’s “Tales from The Blue Lounge” and numerous other Juno-nominated CDs. As well as being nominated for a National Jazz Award as Bassist of the Year, he has accompanied such jazz legends as Anita O’Day, Curtis Fuller, Barry Harris, and Marcus Belgrave. Concurrent with his performance career, Artie Roth is a bass Instructor and ensemble coach at York University.
This evening’s stellar ARTIE ROTH TRIO features jazz masters MIKE FILICE (saxophone) and GEOFF YOUNG on bass, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
