Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Spring, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
Venerated singing star ARLENE SMITH‘s rich contralto voice has made her one of the Toronto club scene’s best-loved singers ever since she relocated here in the early ‘90s after two decades playing to packed houses and critical acclaim in New York and her native Montreal. In Toronto, she immediately became an important regular on the performance rosters at revered jazz venues including The Montreal Bistro, George’s, Bourbon Street, and Top O’ The Senator, working with Toronto’s finest musicians including Moe Koffman, Peter Appleyard, and Norman Amadio.
She continues to impress jazz audiences wherever she performs today, most recently at Toronto’s Jazz Bistro, Kingston Jazz Society’s ‘Live at Your Library’ Series, Cobourg’s Northumberland Art Gallery, and The Old Mill Toronto’s Home Smith Bar. Her three CDs, showcasing a variety of ensembles, unique song selections, and intimate treatment of each, continue to sell worldwide through CD Baby.
This evening’s all-star ARLENE SMITH QUARTET also features jazz masters MARK KIESWETTER on piano, STEVE WALLACE on bass, and JOHN SUMNER on percussion, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
