Archie Alleyne Trio

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Home Smith Bar is a showcase for some of the most important instrumentalists and outstanding singers on today’s jazz scene performing in the charming intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Tonight we feature jazz icon ARCHIE ALLEYNE, recognized as one of this country’s premier jazz drummers and leading social activists. Prominent at the forefront of the Canadian jazz scene for over six decades, Alleyne, together with the late Doug Richardson, co-created the famed hard-bop Kollage Sextet in 2001, and continues to perform and tour with this ensemble internationally. In  addition to a lifelong career recording and touring with jazz legends such as Billie Holiday and Joe Williams, Alleyne has dedicated himself to challenging social inequities, and in recognition of his immeasurable musical contributions and commitment to activism, Alleyne was named to the Order of Canada in 2012. This evening’s all-star Archie Alleyne Trio also features pianist STACIE McGREGOR and bassist ARTIE ROTH, performing for your pleasure in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
