Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.
The last two years have been huge for jazz vocalist AMY McCONNELL. She and musical partner William Sperandei, trumpeter, reached the top of the Jazz charts across Canada and received rave reviews across the board, including the Toronto Star, The Globe & Mail and The WholeNote Magazine, all lauding their passionate interpretations, sophisticated arrangements, and healthy respect for the melody. To culminate their recording triumph, their “Stealing Genius” CD — featuring arrangements by the exceptional Mark Kieswetter, McConnell, and Sperandei joyfully covering repertoire ranging from Burt Bacharach to Edith Piaf and Led Zeppelin — was nominated for a 2014 JUNO Award as “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”.
Known for her beautiful voice and emotional approach, McConnell puts her musical theatre training into a jazz context interpreting both standard and contemporary songs in a unique style that captivated Home Smith Bar sold-out crowds when she starred with Heather Bambrick during the 2015 TD Toronto Jazz Festival.
This evening’s singing star AMY McCONNELL features jazz masters DAVID RESTIVO (piano) and MARC ROGERS (bass) entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
