Amanda Tosoff Trio


Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the Summer, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Jazz pianist and composer AMANDA TOSOFF has emerged as one of the top new talents on the Canadian jazz scene. She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and the General Motors Grand Prix de Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival. She has performed across Canada and abroad with jazz legends including Bobby Hutcherson, Renee Rosnes, Oliver Jones, and Luciana Souza, and her groups have recorded for CBC Radio programs Hot Air, Jazz Beat, and Espace Musique’s live concert series Portraits Jazz.

As a bandleader, Tosoff has released five recordings that feature her own original compositions: Still Life (Cellar Live, 2006); Wait and See (Cellar Live 2008), featuring trumpeter Brad Turner; Looking North (2010), featuring Ingrid Jensen, Kelly Jefferson. and William Carn; Live at the Cellar (2013), featuring Vancouver’s Jodi Proznick and Jesse Cahill; and Words (Fall of 2015), a recording of compositions featuring the work of notable Canadian poets.

This evening’s all-star AMANDA TOSOFF TRIO features jazz masters AMANDA TOSOFF on piano, JON MAHARAJ on bass, and MORGAN CHILDS on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.
