Alexis Baro Quartet


Every Friday, and Saturday throughout the sizzling Summer, The Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene performing for your pleasure in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best loved lounges.    

ALEXIS BARO is a three-time nominee for the Canadian National Jazz Award in the “Best Trumpet Player” category.  He began playing trumpet at an early age and complete his studies as a certified instructor from the renowned Amadeo Roland Music Institute in Havana, Cuba.

He relocated to Canada in 2001 and has since worked in a variety of genres including Jazz, R&B, Funk, Calypso, Latin, Dance and Pop music.  For many years, he was as a member of the hard bop band “Kollage” band led by legendary jazz drummer Archie Alleyne and saxophonist Doug Richardson.  He was a featured soloist alongside Paquito D’Rivera on Hilario Duran’s Juno Award-winning and Grammy-nominated album “From The Heart” (Alma), and has  performed with a variety of other leading artists including Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club), David Foster, Nikky Yanofsky, Paquito D’Rivera, Paul Shaffer, Tom Jones, Gino Vanelli, Snow, David Rudder, Dr. Lonnie Liston Smith, John Secada, The Temptations, and Jimmy Bosch.

He has opened for Herbie Hancock at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and continues to be a featured performer at venues and jazz festivals throughout Canada, The West Indies, and South America. As a solo artist he has released four recordings to date: Havana Banana (Groove United/Universal), From The Other Side (G-THREE), Blue Skin (G-THREE), and his latest recording Guilty Pleasure (G-THREE).

This evening’s stellar ALEXIS BARO QUARTET features jazz masters ALEXIS BARO on trumpet, JEREMY LEDBETTER on piano, YOSER RODRIGUEZ (bass), and AMHED MITCHEL (drums), entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
